So often writers are reminded to rein in their love of words when writing. An expansive vocabulary might be a coveted asset during a heated game of Speed Scrabble, but can sometimes be seen as an obstacle for the general reader.

This is certainly a reasonable argument, but one which should not limit any logophile’s or malaprop’s pursuit of underused words or discovery of forgotten verbage.

The following words were found on Mr. Steve Chrisomalis’ magnificent website:

Upcoming Changes

As we approach our six month anniversary, it is time to look forward to 2012.  Next year, we are planning to move from our once per month schedule on the third Thursday of each month to first and third Thursdays.  This will offer opportunities to critique more work from our authors, and to explore more discussion topics.

We will continue the once a month schedule through December (12/15/2011), and begin the new schedule on January 5, 2012 with a submission deadline of 12/30.

This change of schedule gives us an opportuinty to also discuss other aspects of our group.

  • Should we change our venue?
    • Alternating locations, e.g. North Dearborn and Lawrenceburg,  North Dearborn and Hidden Valley, etc?
    • Something totally different, e.g. a restaurant ?
  • Should we change the meeting times?
  • Suggest special discussion or presentation topics, e.g. dialog tags.
  • Suggest guest speakers.

Please offer your suggestions as a comment to this post.  We can continue the discussion at our December 15 meeting.  But we need to finalize any venue changes at that meeting so we can distribute new posters during the last half of the month.

Welcome to the WordWrites Guild!

WordWrites Guild Launch

All writers from the Cincinnati Tristate region are invited to attend the first meeting of the WordWrites Guild on Thursday, June 16th at the North Dearborn Branch Library from 6:30-7:30pm.

Monthly meetings provide area writers with an opportunity to connect with other wordsmiths in a supportive and professional environment.

The WordWrites Guild emphasizes respectful and practical peer critiques and provides dynamic writing exercises at each gathering.  Attention is given periodically to a specific issue or subject important to developing writers.

This newly formed writers’ group welcomes writers of any genre and of all skill levels.  The focus of the Guild is to encourage and educate all writers in a considerate and yet challenging peer environment.

For further information feel free to contact us with any questions at: wordwritesguild@gmail.com
