Looking Forward to Seeing You!

Wow – November has arrived even before a lot of us were able to really enjoy October’s breezy evenings and crunchy leaves. Now it’s time for cider and gourds and pie!

On Thursday, November 9th, area writers are invited to drop by the North Dearborn Library to share their work for some friendly feedback, take part in respectful critiques of members’ projects, and read whatever they’ve come up with based upon the most recent writing prompt.

We are also asking members to stop by the front desk at the North Dearborn Branch Library to thank the manager, librarians, staff and volunteers for all that they have done for WWG and for the community. This second Thursday in November will be the last official WWG meeting at North Dearborn as we make a few changes to better serve writers throughout Southeastern Indiana, Northern Kentucky and the Greater Cincinnati region.

Please note that we will NOT meet on the fourth Thursday of November due to the holiday. If you haven’t already done so, you might want to subscribe to WordWrites Guild in order to stay up to date on all that will be going on in the coming year. We have some changes planned and a few events in the works that you won’t want to miss – including our annual Open House on December 14th in the Depot Room of the Lawrenceburg Public Library – but more about that later.

Although we hope to enjoy at least a few more weeks of warm weather, WordWrites Guild is looking forward to a productive autumn and an exciting winter. In addition to taking advantage of regular writing prompts, WWG members are in the process of critiquing Susan T.’s newest project, and are currently updating the group’s 2018 calendar that is posted below.

Every writer is invited to join this friendly group to talk about the craft of writing, the challenges of creating, and the thrill of language. No matter if you are new to writing or a seasoned author, you are welcome to stop by and connect with fellow wordsmiths.

The writer-focused meetings begin at 6:00PM and wrap up by 8:00PM. There is never a charge, and all you need to bring is yourself, your work, and your curiosity. There is no pressure to share your writing projects with the group, but you are encouraged to participate in discussions, critiques, and monthly writing exercises.

Please take a moment to subscribe to this site and/or sign up for email alerts. If you have any questions, please contact us for more information by email, text, and/or voice message.  We appreciate your interest and are looking forward to seeing you at our next meeting. Please note the upcoming dates and locations listed below.

Best of Intentions

We’ve all experienced it – done a favor or received a favor, but something didn’t go quite right or turn out as expected. And there are always the other kinds of favors – party favor, approval favor, preference favor, etc. that come to mind, as well.

This week’s prompt might open the door to a comedic adventure or a tragic end. It’s up to you as you craft a 500 word or less version of …

A favor goes wrong

Join your fellow wordsmiths and favor-doers at the next WordWrites Guild meeting at the Lawrenceburg Public Library on Thursday, July 27th at 6:00pm.

In 500 Words or Less …

… write a short-short story, create a poem, come up with a limerick – whatever you’d prefer – using the following prompt as inspiration:

Five bucks left on the table

Then plan to join the WordWrites Guild at the North Dearborn Public Library at 6:00pm tomorrow, June 8th to read your work of literary genius while enjoying the company of fellow wordies.

Fun With Words!

We welcome May with quite an interesting assortment of words with which to create, compose, and craft. These disparate choices were made by blindly reagirls-1149935_1920ching into that shimmering universe of language – a vintage box of vocabulary cards! Oh, the joy of discovering an antediluvian word – just waiting to be released from the dust and silence of disuse.

Circumlocution

Lavish

Placid

Euphony

Baffled

Protuberance

As always, the word limit is 500 – and you can use your imagination as far as content, genre, etc. Of course you are welcome to play along at home, although you might have a better time joining your fellow word-geeks at the next WordWrites Guild meeting on Thursday, May 11 at the North Dearborn Library from 6:00-8:00. We are always happy to see new faces, to hear new voices – and to learn new things!
