… refreshing reviews and cool conversation at the next WordWrites Guild meeting on July 26th in the Ewbank Room of the Lawrenceburg Public Library from 6:00-8:00pm. The Thursday evening gathering of writers will include reviews and critiques of members’ submitted works-in-progress; updates on the ongoing writing contest that is co-sponsored by Oxbow, Inc. and WordWrites Guild. Willing participants will have the opportunity to read their latest creation inspired by this month’s writing prompt.

As always, every writer is encouraged to stop by any WordWrites Guild meeting. There is never a fee to join WWG – all that is required is an interest in and a willingness to write. No matter the genre or level of experience, members and visitors can enjoy a respectful and encouraging approach to reviewing and critiquing submissions, and an evening connecting with fellow writers.

We look forward to seeing familiar faces and to welcoming new wordsmiths!

Summer has arrived and with it a plethora of outdoor activities. The lengthening days are filled with gardening, camping, swimming and blowing bubbles in the sunshine. As a writer, be sure to take advantage of these bright days and happy moments – every experience can give impetus to fun short stories or intriguing novels.

As you create those new places and develop those interesting characters, remember that you can join fellow sunburned writers on every second Thursday of each month to talk about the craft of writing. Members are encouraged to share their work, to submit manuscripts for careful critique or casual review, and to participate in conversations about writing as a passion and a profession.

Stop by the next WordWrites Guild meeting on Thursday, June 14th in the sunny Depot Room of the Lawrenceburg Public Library at 6:00pm.  We will review member’s work, share our writing-prompt inspired masterpieces, and will provide important writing contest updates. For more information about this Oxbow, Inc. and WordWrites Guild jointly-hosted writing contest, please click on the Writing Contest tab at the top of the page.

Writing and Business

Blending creativity with bookkeeping is one of the more difficult challenges often faced by writers, artists, and musicians. WordsWrites Guild members frequently ask about the business side of their work, so in answer to those questions, we have invited Indiana CPA Maureen Sheets to our May 10th meeting in the Depot Room at the Lawrenceburg Public Library.

Ms. Sheets is an experienced accountant who has taught community finance classes and finances for women. She is friendly, approachable and knowledgeable, not only about general record keeping and taxation, but is fully aware that writers, both professional and those just starting out, have concerns specific to their line of work. Following Ms. Sheets’ presentation, she will be happy to answer verbal and written questions from the audience.

This free program is open to the public, and reservations are not necessary. Although this event is geared particularly toward writers, anyone involved in the creation of art – literary, visual, etc. – will find useful information and a welcoming community of follow creatives at Thursday evening’s 6:00pm program.

We look forward to seeing you!

This month can be the month when you finally take that chance and stop by a WordWrites Guild meeting.  Whether you are new to writing or a seasoned pro, you are welcome to share your love of words in a friendly, comfortable and enthusiastic setting.

This month’s prompt came to us from WWG member Pat H. (Thank you, Pat!). Have some fun and see what you can do with it in 500 words or fewer, and then attend one or both WWG meetings in March to find out where the following three words lead your fellow writers:

You

Me

Us

We’re looking forward to critiquing Susan T.’s current book-in-progress, sharing our prompt-inspired creations, and more! Be sure to mark your calendars for:

Thursday, March 8th in the Depot Room at the Lawrenceburg Public Library  6-8:00pm

WHO is WordWrites Guild and WHY should I attend a meeting?

WordWrites Guild is a gathering of all kinds of writers. One member is a published author of children’s books, another contributes to equestrian publications, and yet another writes features and the occasional news story for a regional newspaper. There are also poets and short-short story writers. Some members have never been published but hope to see their work in print one day, and some members simply enjoy writing just for themselves. WWG members include life-long writers, those who are new to writing, and a few who are returning to it after a long absence.

On any given evening, you might meet one or all of these friendly, welcoming wordsmiths. If you are interested in the written word, WWG is interested in meeting you! By attending a meeting, you will have ample opportunity to share ideas, writing projects, questions, challenges, successes and all things writing in a supportive, positive and respectful environment.

Please contact WWG for more information – or just stop by the next meeting in Lawrenceburg, Indiana or Harrison, Ohio!

All kinds of writers join WordWrites Guild for support, reviews, critiques, and conversations about the craft of writing. Because we do not offer online support, we invite you to attend WWG meetings, special events, members’ book signings, etc. in person. Please note the following WordWrites Guild meeting dates and locations – definite through June, 2018. Additional locations, meetings, events, etc. will be updated on this website throughout the year. All library-based meetings begin at 6:00pm and wrap up by 8:00pm.

January 11 —  6:00pm — Maverick’s Firewater Grill, US50, Greendale, IN — Two critiques of members’ work are planned. Please review the previous WWG post for information about this month’s visual writing prompt if you’d like to participate and share your writing exercise with the group that evening.
