Little Free Library Program

WordWrites Guild invites you to cool off with fellow word aficionados on Thursday, July 12th at 6:00pm in the Depot Room of the Lawrenceburg Public Library.

Rick and Jenna Baumgartner will share their knowledge of and experiences with Little Free Libraries. These Dearborn County residents have built and are the stewards of two Little Free Libraries. The evening will include firsthand information about this international effort to share the love of reading. There will be ample time for questions from attendees during this free event that is, of course, open to the public.

Following the Baumgartners’ presentation, WWG members will share their writing inspired by the following prompt, as explained by Susan T. –

We are to write a description of a place. It may be a travelogue, a story, solely a simple (or detailed) description, or whatever you like. As an added element, you may choose a different time period other than the present and make your piece a time travel offering. Keep your time and place a secret though. We will see if the group can guess where and when your story takes place.

In addition, WWG member Pat H. suggested we choose a topic or theme for each meeting that would include a round table discussion or offer an outright learning experience. The first topic is simply the development of, the use of, the challenges of – everything about, really – plot.

We look forward to seeing you at the

July 12th meeting of WordWrites Guild

from 6:00-8:00pm in the

Depot Room of the Lawrenceburg Public Library.

Summer has arrived and with it a plethora of outdoor activities. The lengthening days are filled with gardening, camping, swimming and blowing bubbles in the sunshine. As a writer, be sure to take advantage of these bright days and happy moments – every experience can give impetus to fun short stories or intriguing novels.

As you create those new places and develop those interesting characters, remember that you can join fellow sunburned writers on every second Thursday of each month to talk about the craft of writing. Members are encouraged to share their work, to submit manuscripts for careful critique or casual review, and to participate in conversations about writing as a passion and a profession.

Stop by the next WordWrites Guild meeting on Thursday, June 14th in the sunny Depot Room of the Lawrenceburg Public Library at 6:00pm.  We will review member’s work, share our writing-prompt inspired masterpieces, and will provide important writing contest updates. For more information about this Oxbow, Inc. and WordWrites Guild jointly-hosted writing contest, please click on the Writing Contest tab at the top of the page.

This month can be the month when you finally take that chance and stop by a WordWrites Guild meeting.  Whether you are new to writing or a seasoned pro, you are welcome to share your love of words in a friendly, comfortable and enthusiastic setting.

This month’s prompt came to us from WWG member Pat H. (Thank you, Pat!). Have some fun and see what you can do with it in 500 words or fewer, and then attend one or both WWG meetings in March to find out where the following three words lead your fellow writers:

You

Me

Us

We’re looking forward to critiquing Susan T.’s current book-in-progress, sharing our prompt-inspired creations, and more! Be sure to mark your calendars for:

Thursday, March 8th in the Depot Room at the Lawrenceburg Public Library  6-8:00pm

Wednesday, March 28th in the meeting room at the Harrison Branch Library  6-8:00pm

No, we haven’t gone batty – on Wednesday, February 28th, we will gather in the meeting room of the Harrison Branch Library at 6:00pm.  Anyone interested in writing needn’t remain in a cave – instead all writers are invited to join fellow word aficionados for an evening of writing, critique, review, sharing and camaraderie.

Over the course of two hours, we will present respectful and encouraging critique of submitted work, and each writer will have an opportunity to share their current projects, writing challenges, and literary successes.

We will also read our always creative, often exciting, personal interpretations of this month’s prompt. Please be sure to use the following words in your piece, which is capped at 500 words:

Factitious – https://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/english/factitious
Enhance – https://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/english/enhance
Excruciating – https://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/english/excruciating

We look forward to seeing you in Harrison this fourth Wednesday of the month – February 28th – and will be happy to answer any questions you might have. Simply email, text or leave a voice message, and we’ll get back to you promptly!

All kinds of writers join WordWrites Guild for support, reviews, critiques, and conversations about the craft of writing. Because we do not offer online support, we invite you to attend WWG meetings, special events, members’ book signings, etc. in person. It’s a great way to get to know fellow writers throughout the region, to hear feedback on your writing, and to receive in-depth critiques of your work prior to pitching, self-publishing, or submitting your project.

Please note the following WordWrites Guild meeting dates and locations – definite through June, 2018. Additional locations, meetings, events, etc. will be updated on this website throughout the year. All library-based meetings begin at 6:00pm and wrap up by 8:00pm.

January 11 —  6:00pm — Maverick’s Firewater Grill, US50, Greendale, IN — Two critiques of members’ work are planned. Please review the previous WWG post for information about this month’s visual writing prompt if you’d like to participate and share your writing exercise with the group that evening.

Best of Intentions

We’ve all experienced it – done a favor or received a favor, but something didn’t go quite right or turn out as expected. And there are always the other kinds of favors – party favor, approval favor, preference favor, etc. that come to mind, as well.

This week’s prompt might open the door to a comedic adventure or a tragic end. It’s up to you as you craft a 500 word or less version of …

A favor goes wrong

Join your fellow wordsmiths and favor-doers at the next WordWrites Guild meeting at the Lawrenceburg Public Library on Thursday, July 27th at 6:00pm.

Have you found that your writing flowed more easily than usual as a result of the current prompt?

The bus shelter in the rain.

Whether it has, or whether you have been mired in a literary drought (isn’t mixing weather and metaphors fun?), you are welcome to join fellow writers on this Thursday, June 22nd at the Lawrenceburg Public Library at 6:00pm – rain gear optional!
