Spend Your Thursdays in Lawrenceburg!

WordWrites Guild members are unique in their style of writing, their approach to story telling, and their choice of genre, but they also have many things in common- not the least of which is an encouraging attitude toward new writers. Every word-crafter is invited to attend the Fourth Thursday, August 23rd WWG meeting. Local writers, poets, novelists, short story writers, et al will gather in the Ewbank Room of the Lawrenceburg Public Library at 6:00pm to share work and offer support to fellow wordsmiths.

If you have been searching for a place to create, offer guidance and receive respectful support, then WordWrites Guild is the place for you. Please drop by the Ewbank Room meeting on the fourth Thursday of every month. And if that isn’t convenient, we also host a Depot Room meeting every second Thursday of each month.  Both meetings are held at the Lawrenceburg Public Library, are completely free of charge, and are welcoming, friendly places to share, learn, and discover.

The writing prompt for August 23rd’s WordWrites meeting is one that’s guaranteed to crank up your imagination.  Choose someone from the past, be it historical, fictional, or otherwise, and bring them forward in time to present-day 21st century. Poems, short stories, diary entries, blogs–all are welcome. It will be interesting to see what everyone comes up with.

Networking is important to writers. At the last WordWrites meeting, Liz Loche shared her tips for social media, with an emphasis on how to set up accounts for Twitter, Instagram, and Tumbler and the benefits and drawbacks of each. Thank you, Liz, for such an enlightening presentation.

If you are interested in combining writing and nature, there’s still time to enter the Oxbow Writing contest. It is open to all writers who have visited the Oxbow wetlands. The deadline for the contest is September 14, 2018. For more information about the contest and the lovely, protected Oxbow, please visit http://www.oxbowinc.org

The next WordWrites Guild meeting is scheduled for Thursday, August 23, 2018, at 6 p.m. in the Ewbank Room of the Lawrenceburg Public Library.

Writing Contest and Meeting Updates

It is hard to believe that summer is almost over, and back-to-school time is right around the corner.  Why not squeeze in one last field trip by visiting the Oxbow. It is beautiful this time of year, and it is always changing.

As many of you know, Oxbow, Inc. and WordWrites Guild have joined forces to co-sponsor a regional writing contest open to all writers who have visited the Oxbow wetlands, located in part near Greendale, Indiana. For more information about this lovely, protected area, please visit http://www.oxbowinc.org. For more information about the contest itself, please click on the Writing Contest tab above. The deadline for the contest is September 14.

WordWrites Guild is open to writers of all kinds, from beginners, to accomplished writers, from those with an idea, to those working on something bigger. All are invited to become a member of WWG and share their writing successes and challenges, to submit work for review or critique, and/or to share their writing-prompt-inspired literary creations with the group.

There are those who never write in the margins of books, and then there are those who jot down everything–even their most precious secrets–in the white spaces of reading material. Search through your books (especially those purchased second hand) for marginalia. Let your imagination run wild as you consider the meaning of these jottings and imagine what the person who wrote them would be like. Use these ideas as a writing prompt for a story or poem or whatever comes to mind.  (For more ideas, visit http://www.atlasobscura.com/article/best-notes-written-in-books) Then visit WordWrites on August 9 to share your work.

At the next meeting, Liz Loche will discuss and help set up accounts for Social Media Marketing. If your are a writer who would like to “get your name out there”, this is the meeting for you.

Our next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, August 9th from 6:00-8:00, in the Depot Room of the Lawrenceburg Public Library.

… refreshing reviews and cool conversation at the next WordWrites Guild meeting on July 26th in the Ewbank Room of the Lawrenceburg Public Library from 6:00-8:00pm. The Thursday evening gathering of writers will include reviews and critiques of members’ submitted works-in-progress; updates on the ongoing writing contest that is co-sponsored by Oxbow, Inc. and WordWrites Guild. Willing participants will have the opportunity to read their latest creation inspired by this month’s writing prompt.

As always, every writer is encouraged to stop by any WordWrites Guild meeting. There is never a fee to join WWG – all that is required is an interest in and a willingness to write. No matter the genre or level of experience, members and visitors can enjoy a respectful and encouraging approach to reviewing and critiquing submissions, and an evening connecting with fellow writers.

We look forward to seeing familiar faces and to welcoming new wordsmiths!

meeting-1738945_1280WordWrites Guild has adopted the following schedule for the remainder of 2018. Please note the change of venue for the fourth Thursday of every month, beginning with our June 28th meeting.

We will meet in the Depot Room of the Lawrenceburg Public Library on every SECOND Thursday.

We will meet in the Ewbank Room of the Lawrenceburg Public Library on every FOURTH Thursday.

Both meetings begin at 6:00pm, although drop-ins are always welcome.

The writing prompt for the June 28th meeting is:

Choose a song and write a poem or fiction piece that the song might be about. Keep your song a secret because after reading your story, the group will try to guess which song you have chosen.

Please join us at the next meeting to share and listen to always entertaining and sometimes thought-provoking takes on the current writing prompt; discuss the ongoing WWG and Oxbow, Inc.’s writing contest, and review submitted works-in-progress.

Please be sure to mark your calendars and stop by the Ewbank Room at the Lawrenceburg Public Library on Thursday, June 28th at 6:00pm. We’ll be glad to see you!

We at WordWrites Guild are an eclectic mix of folks – teachers, painters, drivers, students, grandparents, musicians, engineers – all Jacks and Jills of many trades! In an effort to bring fresh creativity into our writing, from time to time we will be using photographs, music, and more for our twice-monthly writing prompts.

We are excited about the following image and can’t wait to hear what everyone comes up with for the August 24th at the Lawrenceburg Public Library at 6:00pm when they share their writing inspired by:
